5 Things I am Loving: Back-to-School Home Reset

I’m excited to start sharing five things I am loving with you periodically on the blog. This month is all about resetting your home after the business of summer.

While my husband and I don’t have kids yet, I have found myself caught up in the back-to-school energy this year. After a summer full of travel and moving into our new home, the opportunity for a little mid-year restart was welcome! While moms were getting systems in place for the new school year, I took that energy and used it to get some new systems in place for our home. August 1st felt like a new year of sorts. I was ready for a fresh start…some new bins, new labels, and overall ready to get organized! If you’re in the same boat, read on for 5 things I am loving for resetting your home.

  1. I listened to this podcast a few weeks ago, and I was inspired to take a few fifteen-minute time blocks to organize and reset our home using the five essential items they discuss: a trash bag, clear bags, a donation box that you can donate, a tidy tote, and a timer.

  2. Bulk trash pick-up! Did you know that once a month the City of Dallas provides bulk trash pick up? You can place your oversized items, old/broken furniture, mattresses, appliances, etc out on your curb and the city will pick it up! This is the perfect time to get rid of those oversized items and save yourself a trip to the dump.

  3. I’m loving the cleaning schedule from Clean Mama. Once you’ve organized your space, it’s super helpful to have a set schedule to stay on top of things!

  4. Our spice drawer is one of our most used drawers. Now, thanks to these awesome labels, it’s well organized too. I love that this set comes with printed labels for you— they have every spice you could think of ready to go. Bonus: once your spices are in uniform containers, arrange them alphabetically or by cuisine for even more order!

  5. The 20/ 20 decluttering rule takes the mental anguish out of organization. One of the hardest parts of organization can be deciding what to keep and what to get rid of! It can feel overwhelming or like you’re being wasteful to get rid of things. I recently heard someone said that if you’re unsure if to keep an item or not, ask yourself if you can replace it for $20 or less in under $20 minutes. If the answer is yes, get rid of it. If you really find yourself needing that item again, you know it will be quick and inexpensive to replace it!

I hope these 5 things that I am loving help you love your home even more! If you’re not loving your home and these things don’t help, maybe it’s time for a move. Let’s chat about it!
