How long does it take to buy a home?
Like most things in real estate, every situation is different! Generally speaking, here’s what the timeline of buying a home looks like:
6-9 Months Out: Start doing your homework!
You know you want to buy a home soon, most likely in the next 6-9ish months. It’s time to do your homework! Start thinking on what your negotiable items and nonnegotiable items are, where you want to be and how much you want to spend. This is when you reach out to me. We’ll meet and talk through first steps, get you set up to receive emails when new houses hit the market and I will connect you with lenders to start talking to.
3 Months Out: Start looking!
At this point, you’ve picked a lender and you’re pre-approved, you have a better idea of what you want and you’ve narrowed down where you want to be! This is where it gets fun! We’ll start going to look at houses that meet your perimeters and we’ll be ready to make an offer when we find the right thing!
30 Days from Offer to Close!
In most cases, especially when financing is involved, you can expect to close on your house 30 days after an offer is accepted. This 30 days gives us time to do an inspection during the option period, your lender will send your loan through underwriting and order an appraisal and the title company will be working behind the scenes to pull everything together!
