Nanny’s Sugar Cookies

With Christmas just a few days away, I am so excited to share THE BEST sugar cookie recipe with you! I grew up eating my Nanny’s sugar cookies, and making these cookies each year is one of my favorite Christmas traditions! When we’re celebrating Christmas with my family, it’s tradition for my younger sister and I to have a decorating competition. On the years we celebrate with my husbands family, I still make these with my in-laws and they are loved by everyone!

With just 7 ingredients, these are super easy to whip up. The dough has to chill for 2-3 hours, and longer is okay! I usually will make the dough in the morning and then roll out the cookies that afternoon or evening. The orange juice is the secret ingredient that adds the sweetest burst of flavor.

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 teaspoon baking powder

2 tablespoon Orange Juice

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 ½ cups flour

Directions

Mix butter, sugar, egg, baking power, orange juice, and vanilla with electric mixer until fluffy.

Gradually stir in flour until well mixed.

Chill dough for 2 to 3 hours in refrigerator.

Preheat oven to 400°.

Sprinkle work surface and rolling pin with flour.

Using small amounts of dough at a time, sprinkle with flour and roll out ⅛in to ¼in thick and cut into shapes.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes until light brown.

Remove cookies and cool on wire rack.

Icing when completely cool.

P.S. This is my go-to icing recipe!

ENJOY!! Let me know if you make these… Nanny would love to know!
